Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater.
Character dance is integral to much of the classical ballet repertoire. A good example of character dance within ballet is the series of national dances which take place at the beginning of Act III of Swan Lake. The ballet Don Quixote as well as Paquita also features many character variations based on traditional Spanish dances. Popular character dance adaptations for ballet also include the national dances of Hungary, Russia, Poland, Italy and Spain: csárdás, mazurka, tarantella, flamenco, etc.

Graduate of a Master of performing Arts at Far East University of Culture.
Studied and danced at the State Dance Co. of Siberia under M. Godenko. Lilia is specialising in character dance of different nationalities, such as Russian, Polish, Gypsy, Spanish, Italian, Jewish, Baltic, Greek etc.
Lilia started her work experience at the age of 14 at one of the studios in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Unicorns kids dance studio was founded by Lilia Dutova in 2013.
The main objective of the studio is saving and teaching unique traditions of different nationalities, education of dancers, who is able to show complex and diverse artistic performances. Students are learning basics of classical dance,as well as elements of gymnastics and acrobatics.

Our two daughters have been going to Unicorns for 4 years. They are now 9 years old and 7 years old respectively and they love their dancing with Lilya. They have had such wonderful experiences of performing traditional dances in public at many Melbourne festivals and events. Еще нам очень нравится педагог. Лиля не только замечательный хореограф, но и очень внимательный человек, и всегда спокойно находит подход к любому ребенку.
В “Unicorns” мои дети занимаются уже больше 3 лет. Уроки всегда проходят очень интересно, разнообразно, в замечательной атмосфере. Дети очень любят эти занятия, ведь на них они встречают своих друзей, учатся новым танцам и очень весело проводят время.
What a wonderful experience for the kids who are part of Lilia’s class! She is one of the most professional and positive dance instructors I have come across since my daughter started taking dance classes one year ago. She makes solid connections with her students and they simply love her!

Wow there are so many amazing things about Unicorns and I am so happy that I chose this studio for my granddaughter who is learning the classical Character Dance of Russia. I have to thank Lilia for her caring and encouraging teaching style. At first, my kid were reluctant to take the character dance class but after a couple of lessons, she was asking when the next class was! Now after watching her practice, it’s obvious she is learning so much and really having a blast too. This was exactly what I had hoped would happen so thanks so much!
